Yemen developments and US strategy
The article begins by discussing the transformations in the Yemeni arena and their impact on the American strategy to weaken Iran. Washington is aiming to make control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait a leverage point against Tehran, especially as the conflict between the government forces and the Houthis intensifies. The United States is working to strengthen its regional alliances and activate mutual defense agreements with Saudi Arabia, amid increasing tensions in Yemen due to rising Houthi attacks and warnings about the security of shipping lanes in the region. These developments in Yemen are intended to diminish Iran's regional influence and reduce its impact on oil prices, thereby affecting its strategic position in the region and bolstering Washington's stance to pressure Tehran into negotiations.
