Student protest challenges government
The article focused on Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, Jo Siddy's, decision to abstain from attending Cabinet sessions in protest against the government's stance on the demands of the electricity sector. The minister emphasized that the core issue with electricity will only be resolved through adopting a decentralization policy in production and distribution, accompanied by quick, low-cost solutions such as enhancing revenue collection, merging utilities, and reviewing fuel import mechanisms. This move aims to pressure the government into taking serious actions to ensure the continuity of electricity and reduce the burdens on citizens before the winter season. Siddy's decision to abstain comes amid a complex political and security situation, adding to the challenges faced by Lebanon's energy sector.
