Lebanon's journey to grain success
The article highlights Lebanon's success in developing its coffee industry despite not cultivating coffee beans domestically. Figures indicate that Lebanese roasted coffee exports have doubled from $8.9 million in 2016 to $30.7 million in 2025, with export volumes increasing significantly and continued growth during years of crisis. At the same time, large quantities of coffee were imported, with coffee imports valued at approximately $112.4 million in 2025. Lebanon primarily relies on unroasted green coffee as a raw material, which allows added value within the country through roasting and packaging. Despite the rise in exports, the coffee trade balance still suffers from a deficit of about $77 million. There is a need to improve product quality and expand export markets to achieve higher added value, showcasing Lebanon’s ability to transform limited resources into a global coffee brand.
