Ozal warns of Turkey's Yemen role via Mecca Agreement
The leader of the Republican People’s Party, Özgür Özal, criticized the decision to activate the defensive obligations outlined in the "Mecca Agreement," warning that this could directly lead Turkey into the Yemen war. He emphasized the need for Parliament's approval to send forces abroad and considered that signing a defense agreement with a country involved in armed conflicts carries the risk of embroiling Turkey in external disputes. He called on not to use the military for external interests that do not serve national interests, warning that the current steps represent a gamble that could drag Turkey back into the Yemeni quagmire after a century since the last military engagement in the region.
