Iran announces Strait of Hormuz closure
Reports indicate that Iran intends to close off illegal oil transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz as part of its efforts to fully occupy and control the strait. Iran has carried out explosions to demolish rocky passages used for smuggling oil through the southern corridor near the Omani coast, despite continued high oil flows exceeding pre-war levels, with September oil exports averaging 18.3 million barrels per day. Nevertheless, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard denies any recovery in maritime oil transportation through the strait, noting that only about 10 ships now pass daily compared to 125 before the war, amid ongoing attacks and logistical restrictions, casting doubt on the ability to sustain oil flows at peak levels.
