Trump: Russian plague not linked to bioweapons
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States does not believe the death of an employee at the plague research institute in Irkutsk, Siberia, is linked to a biological weapon, despite international concern following reports of a possible plague infection among institute staff. He explained that Russian authorities conducted thousands of tests without finding any cases of plague, and about 200 people were placed under supervision or quarantine. The World Health Organization has called for more detailed accounts of the incident. Concerns remain due to the nature of the institute and the Soviet history of biological weapons research; however, there is currently no evidence connecting the death to a biological weapons program.
