Hormuz Strait Ship Traffic Drops
Shipping data has shown that the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to its lowest level in over two months, following attacks on oil tankers that reached their highest point since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran. Last week, the volume of oil transiting the strait decreased by 27%, reaching 10.1 million barrels per day, as a balance was restored in transfer operations between tankers in the Gulf of Oman. These operations increased exports from the coast to 6.7 million barrels per day—more than double the pre-war levels—preserving the region’s oil export capacity. Although there was a slight increase in the number of ships passing—up to 10 daily—the figure remains below the more than 20 ships that were crossing the strait at the beginning of the week. Meanwhile, attacks have been concentrated on oil tankers, leading to increased regional tensions.
