Lebanon faces pressure to limit Hezbollah funding
International pressures, especially from the United States and Europe, have intensified their efforts to curb Hezbollah's funding and its organizations in Lebanon, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of money laundering and terrorist financing controls. The moves have focused on choking funding sources through sanctions, monitoring cash flows, and halting the flow of unknown funds, with particular attention on the "Al-Qard Al-Hassan" association and oversight of non-banking financial institutions. This comes as part of preparations to review the implementation of laws against illegal financing, especially during the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting in France, with the goal of closing loopholes and achieving measurable results, in order to prevent the re-financing of organizations like Hezbollah and to investigate money laundering practices.
