Al-Khuli Affirms Tariff Will Not Exploit Lebanese Citizens
The President of the Union of Lebanese Workers' Unions, Maroun Al-Kholy, revealed the removal of an important clause from the official tariff for private generators. This clause ensured that the fixed component of the elevator fares and shared sections, when using a three-phase power supply, was calculated based on a single phase. The elimination of this clause has doubled the cost of fixed subscriptions, thereby imposing significant financial burdens on building owners and subscribers. There is also uncertainty surrounding the decision to delete this clause and the legal and technical basis upon which it was founded. Al-Kholy called for the reinstatement of the clause or the issuance of an official statement clarifying the standards and the financial implications. He viewed this removal as an exploitation and violation of consumer protection laws, and demanded a financial and criminal investigation to identify those responsible, as well as ensure legal and transparent protection for citizens.
