Parliamentary Group Discusses UNIFIL Future
The article addresses an official request from Lebanese deputies to the United Nations to reconsider Resolution 2790 (2025) regarding the presence of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon. This request is based on the on-the-ground and legal changes that have taken place since the resolution was issued. The deputies emphasize that these changes necessitate a review of the implementation mechanism for the resolution to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reduce security gaps, and ensure that UN support for Lebanon—through UNIFIL—continues. The Lebanese government reaffirms its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and relies on its national army to maintain security and stability in the south. This initiative is part of a parliamentary movement that reflects a unified national will to uphold international legitimacy and Lebanon's independence.
