EU launches military aid mission to Lebanon
European Union foreign ministers agreed to launch a new support mission for Lebanon, which will be extended for three years. The mission aims to provide advice and training to the Lebanese Army and security forces to strengthen control over land, border security, and internal security. The European force will include a military component supporting the armed forces' capabilities in border monitoring and maritime security, as well as a civilian component focused on enhancing the capabilities of security agencies, especially in combating smuggling, cybercrime, and port management, including Beirut Port. The mission's goal is to support Lebanon in regaining sovereignty and building lasting stability. It will coordinate with international organizations and the United Nations, and it is expected to be deployed in the coming months after operational planning is completed.
