Concerns over border village displacement post-UNIFIL withdrawal
As the international peacekeeping forces "UNIFIL" approach their withdrawal from southern Lebanon, concerns are increasing for the border villages with a Christian presence, such as Ramish, Dabboul, and Ain Ebel. These worries stem from restrictions imposed on movement, food supplies, and trade, which could threaten the livelihoods of the residents and lead to their displacement—especially given Israel's ongoing control of the area and the lack of clear alternatives after the departure of the international forces. Local officials point out that the exit could lead to a deterioration of economic and social conditions, with rising unemployment rates and a slowdown in commercial activity. They warn of significant negative impacts on residents' lives and regional stability.
