The Lebanese government’s efforts to produce electricity from the private sector are long-term, with work beginning on the establishment of local power plants as early as 2012. Several projects have been implemented, including 11 solar stations between 2017 and 2022, each with capacities of up to 15 megawatts, as well as three wind farms between 2013 and 2018. However, activists complain that the recent promises regarding the achievements of the Ministry of Energy are delayed and often presented with gaps of two to four years, after lengthy planning and implementation periods. Officials are accused of complacency and of not fulfilling the magical solutions promised to the Lebanese people.
