Alexander Ivanko, head of the MINURSO mission, called its officials and staff to an emergency meeting at its headquarters in Laayoune on Monday to discuss arrangements for the transition and the mission’s departure, including the management of its units and the status of its personnel. The meeting comes after the mission’s mandate was not renewed and its liquidation began on November 1, 2026, following the failure to reach a consensus in the Security Council on extending it. Russia vetoed the US draft resolution, while the Russian draft did not receive enough votes.
