Russian teachers paid with vodka
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia experienced a severe economic crisis that led to the collapse of the ruble's value and rising prices. This prompted many institutions and companies to adopt barter systems instead of cash transactions. Some employees received their salaries in products such as vodka, which became an informal currency in certain areas. Additionally, some vodka factories deducted a portion of taxes in the form of products distributed to employees as a way to compensate for salaries. This situation caused economic chaos during the transition from the Soviet system to a market economy.
