Turkey has nominated Feridun Hadi Sinirlioğlu, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, for the post of United Nations Secretary-General, and submitted his nomination letter, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to the Security Council and General Assembly. In an informal Security Council poll, Rebeca Grynspan strengthened her lead with 11 votes in favor and four against, her strongest result in seven rounds; Rafael Grossi came second with nine votes in favor. The winner’s nomination requires a Security Council recommendation—with at least nine votes in favor and no objection from any permanent member—before approval by the General Assembly.
