Qatar urges support to restore Syria at IAEA
Qatar has called on members of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to vote in favor of removing the item "Implementation of the Safeguards Agreement in Syria" from the agenda, in order to enable Syria to restore its normal status within the agency. The Qatari ambassador affirmed that the agency's Director General's report indicated that Syria has taken measures to address its prior nuclear situation and has succeeded in resolving outstanding issues in cooperation with the agency, reflecting a historic progress in resolving Syrian nuclear matters. The adoption of this proposal presents an opportunity for Syria to benefit from the peaceful applications of nuclear energy and to support development and reconstruction efforts. This move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation between Damascus and the agency, contributing to the stabilization of Syria's nuclear situation.
