Arabic identity in the digital age
The article discusses efforts to strengthen the presence of the Arabic language in the digital age through the development of linguistic resources, the creation of computational content, and the utilization of artificial intelligence. The goal is to enable Arabic to compete effectively in the global knowledge economy. Despite being spoken by over 400 million people and linked to approximately two billion Muslims, its representation in digital content does not exceed 0.6% of internet sites, limiting its ability to benefit from AI technologies and natural language processing. Institutions such as the King Salman Institute for Arabic Language are working to build high-quality linguistic resources, develop digital dictionaries, and create intelligent tools to enhance the ability of language models to understand Arabic's cultural and civilizational characteristics. The article emphasizes that the future depends on investing in education, advancing scientific research, and forming partnerships with the tech sector to ensure that Arabic remains a vital force in knowledge and technology production, achieving digital sovereignty while preserving its cultural identity.
