Expatriate Students Face Rising Rents
The rising housing rents pose significant challenges for international students in Saudi universities, as the high costs and the requirement to pay a full year's rent despite a short academic period increase financial burdens and make off-campus living difficult. On the other hand, community initiatives are emerging to regulate the housing market, including the creation of student networking groups and the development of electronic platforms to help students find suitable accommodation and reliable roommates. There is also encouragement to formalize rental contracts through the "Ijar" platform to ensure rights and reduce fraud. Experts and parents recommend prioritizing on-campus housing for the increased safety and direct communication it offers. Additionally, providing affordable accommodation near or within the university can improve academic stability and reduce costs for students.
