The shares of American company Moderna rose by 62% to $102.01 following the announcement of their successful personalized cancer vaccine in collaboration with Merck, in an advanced clinical trial for melanoma treatment. The results showed that the combination of the vaccine and the drug Keytruda reduces cancer recurrence and spread, with the company successfully achieving the main objectives of the study. These are the first successful results using mRNA technology for cancer treatment in the final stage of clinical trials. The two companies anticipate submitting regulatory approval applications, and the treatment could be available to patients before 2027. The vaccine is used after surgical removal of the tumor to train the immune system to attack remaining cancer cells.
