Canada nears trade deal with US
Canadian and American trade negotiators have reached an agreement aimed at avoiding the imposition of new tariffs on Canadian goods, especially in light of Trump's threat to impose a 50% tariff on certain products. The agreement focuses on protecting jobs and U.S. supply chains, with Canada seeking to reduce tariffs on automobiles from 25% to 10%, and making commitments regarding discriminatory practices in handling some American products. The new tariffs on goods worth $20 billion are expected to come into effect if no final deal is reached before the deadline next week.
