China recalls 4.3M cars Tesla leads
Tesla and eight other car companies in China announced a recall of approximately 4.3 million vehicles, marking the largest recall of its kind in the Chinese market, due to concerns over difficulty opening doors in emergency situations. The recall includes Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles, both locally manufactured and imported, starting from September 25, at no additional cost to owners. These measures come alongside a new regulatory ban in China set to begin in 2027, which will prohibit hidden door handles in order to improve accessibility and safety during emergencies. Additionally, companies such as Xiaomi, Leap Motor, and Xpeng are being summoned in the hundreds of thousands to comply with new safety standards focused on improving door handle designs and enhancing overall safety in the local market.
