US targets Larak after Hormuz mining attempt
The U.S. Department of Defense reported that the American military carried out a strike on Iran's Larak Island after detecting an attempt to plant mines in the Strait of Hormuz, which included targeting two gunfire platforms on the island. This operation is part of efforts to protect navigation freedom in this vital corridor, with the U.S. Central Command confirming that last week it completed mine-clearing operations on major international shipping routes. U.S. forces are closely monitoring the area and preparing for any escalation. This comes after Washington announced that it has rerouted 83 commercial ships since imposing a new blockade on Iran.
