Two road code exceptions and six removals
The General Authority for Roads has identified two cases in which it may be possible to request an exemption from applying the Saudi Road Code standards: The first is when there are technical justifications and circumstances that make the application of the standard impossible or unsuitable, provided that an alternative technical solution is available that achieves the same objectives with higher safety and quality. The second pertains to the use of modern techniques or materials not covered by the code, with proof of their suitability and their ability to meet the intended purposes at the same or an even higher level. Additionally, the exemption can be modified or revoked in six cases, including violations of conditions, providing misleading information, changes in circumstances, or the emergence of risks that threaten safety or the environment.
