Palestinian coach killed in Israeli custody
A Palestinian Taekwondo coach, Rafeat Khairi Ahmed Abu Khalil, aged 41, was martyred during his detention for several hours near the Anabta military checkpoint east of Tulkarm in northern occupied West Bank. Rescue crews attempted to revive him, but he passed away. The sources did not disclose the cause of his death or the reasons for his detention. Abu Khalil was from the town of Atil and previously served as the head of the National Taekwondo Teams Committee and as director of the Al-Fahad Sports Center in Ramallah. This incident occurs amid an Israeli military tightening of restrictions on Palestinian movement in the West Bank, along with ongoing arrests and assaults since the start of the aggression campaign on Gaza in October 2023.
