EU Challenges FIFA to End Lengthy Breaks
Reports have confirmed that the expanded international break schedule, which includes four consecutive matches held annually, has sparked widespread criticism from European football leaders—especially after stars like Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland suffered injuries during these periods. European clubs consider this system a burden on players, leading to loss of momentum, adding extra strain on both domestic and international competitions, and negatively affecting seasonal stability while increasing injury risks. Despite this, FIFA continues to rely on this schedule until 2030, and there are expected to be discussions about modifying the system in the future based on the opinions of European associations—particularly since the calendar includes four matches at the start of each season, creating pressure on players and clubs.
