Barcelona players prompt VAR review of Betis’s disallowed goal
The resurgence of controversy surrounding the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology during the Barcelona vs. Real Betis match has reignited debates about its fairness and methods of utilization, especially after recordings surfaced showing Barcelona players pressuring the referee to review plays and a phrase indicating that the referee requested the review "upon request." The disallowed goal by Argentine Giovani Lo Celso and the VAR intervention were major topics, with former Spanish referee Eulario González criticizing these actions and describing them as encouraging "VAR on demand," raising questions about the referees' compliance and the proper legal procedures for reviewing footage during matches.
