The Haaretz newspaper reported that Israeli officials, supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are hindering the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, more than a year after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Israeli officials refuse to cooperate with the "Peace Council," which presented a roadmap that includes disarming Hamas and managing Gaza through a national committee, as Netanyahu insists on complete disarmament before any Israeli withdrawal. This obstruction is considered part of Netanyahu’s election strategy as the Knesset elections approach on October 27, aiming to politicize the implementation of the plan amidst deteriorating relations with the U.S. administration, ongoing Israeli occupation of about 60% of Gaza, and devastating field results since the escalation began in October 2023.
