Reports have circulated about the rising water levels of the Euphrates River in the city of Raqqa in northern Syria, following a period of heavy rains during winter and spring. This has led to an increase in fishing activity and a greater diversity and quantity of fish. The rise in water levels has positively impacted the fish market by helping to clean the river and improve fish nutrition, allowing fishermen to catch at least 50 kilograms daily during the summer months, compared to the winter months. Fish species such as tilapia, catfish, mullet, and carp have become prominent in the market, with demand rising due to higher beef prices. It is worth noting that the prices of some types, like carp and catfish, are higher due to their scarcity.
