The Internal Security Forces in Latakia Governorate have detained Major General Jassim Kamil Saqr, a former officer in the Assad regime's forces, who is accused of involvement in war crimes and arbitrary arrests of civilians. Saqr previously held leadership positions, including commander of the 18th Infantry Brigade, Chief of Staff of the 14th Division, and Deputy Commander of the same division until mid-2016. He was dismissed in May 2017. This operation is part of a security campaign targeting former officials and officers suspected of committing violations during the previous regime's rule.
