The U.S. ambassador to Ankara and special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, expressed regret over the ongoing escalation in the city of Swaida in southern Syria, where armed gangs fill the power vacuum caused by the absence of the state. He affirmed that the roadmap agreed upon a year ago with the Syrian government and Jordan aims to reintegrate the province while respecting the rights of the Druze population and avoiding further suffering. He called for building cooperation and emphasized the need to concentrate power within the state, praising the Syrian government’s initiation of trials for those responsible for crimes, and urged adherence to dialogue and restraint to prevent the cycle of violence from continuing.
