Majed Osu, a 38-year-old Syrian refugee, is running for the Rotenburg City Council in Lower Saxony, Germany, representing the Free Voters party. He has settled there for about five years and obtained German citizenship in 2019. His campaign focuses on revitalizing the city center, supporting commercial diversity, improving childcare, and strengthening the economy and democracy. He opposes the proposed closure of Goethestraße, which is feared to harm local businesses. Although his chances of winning are slim, he continues his political activities and is currently one of the party’s candidates. He also enjoys playing football as a hobby and considers himself German while maintaining his Syrian identity.
