Tunisie Telegraph: Rescued elders from Italian fire, faces deportation
A Tunisian young man named Jawhar Heddaji intervened to save three elderly people trapped by fire inside an apartment in Sicily, Italy. As a result, he was detained and deported because he did not possess a valid residence permit. This incident has sparked a legal debate about the value of humanitarian actions, reflecting the complexities of Italy's immigration laws. His lawyer is now seeking to obtain a two-year residence permit for him to engage in activities of civic interest, possibly with support from one of those he rescued. The case raises questions about the extent to which the social value of human courage is recognized within the framework of immigration laws.
