Qasr Al-Saf Seeds Festival Highlights Heritage and Food Sovereignty
The eighth edition of the Heritage Seeds and Food Self-Sufficiency Festival was organized in the city of Qusur Al-Saff in the Mahdia Governorate. The event aims to preserve Tunisian agricultural heritage and strengthen food sovereignty. The festival focuses on restoring traditional seeds inherited from ancestors, which are adapted to local climatic conditions and help reduce dependence on imported and hybrid seeds—especially given their rising prices. The program includes seed exhibitions, exchanges among farmers, seminars on water issues and seed legal frameworks, as well as workshops on cultivation and preservation techniques. These efforts aim to support the food and environmental independence of Tunisian farmers. Participating farmers emphasize the importance of protecting these seeds, which represent a national treasure and heritage, particularly because they are drought-resistant and require fewer chemical interventions—contributing to more sustainable farming and enhancing resilience to climate change.
