National Institute supplies limited seed share
The article highlights the limited availability of high-quality seeds for grains in Tunisia, where their proportion reaches only 25% of the nation's needs. It is noted that the remaining supply depends on farmers producing their own seeds. Engineer Fadi Al-Ghadefi emphasizes the importance of increasing the use of certified seeds to ensure higher germination rates and improved quality of the variety and type. He clarifies that these seeds are produced and multiplied by four specialized companies under state supervision and oversight from research institutions. He also stresses the significance of implementing crop rotation with diverse crops, especially including legumes and industrial crops, to maintain soil fertility and reduce diseases and pests. Additionally, the Institute of Major Agriculture is organizing informational days to support farmers at the start of the grain planting season.
