Iraq shuts Iran border amid US pressure
The Iraqi authorities have closed a border crossing with Iran, a move that comes amid American pressure to tighten restrictions on Iran. The crossing, known as Jadda Border Crossing, has been closed since the morning of October 21, 2026, with no specific reason given, amidst Washington’s pressure on Baghdad to close more crossings. This step is part of the United States' efforts to impose sanctions on entities linked to Tehran, amid the ongoing strong ties between Iraq and Iran in politics, economics, and religion.
