Kasserine Agriculture Union on Hail Damage
The article discusses how the olive harvest season in the Kasserine governorate has been affected by climate fluctuations. It forecasts that the 2026-2027 season's harvest will be around 100,000 tons, marking a 10% decrease compared to the previous season, which was estimated at 130,000 tons. This decline is attributed to the effects of heat stress and hailstorm damage, which have harmed between 50% and 70% of the cultivated areas in some districts, particularly Sbeiba, Sbeitla, and Jedelian. Additionally, the season has seen early ripening of the fruits due to rising temperatures, prompting farmers to open the mills earlier and proactively. However, producers are facing storage issues, with large quantities being exported to other regions due to limited storage capacity in 37 mills in the area. These conditions are expected to impact the overall olive oil production for this year.
