The cocaine market in Tunisia is considered small but growing. Because of its high price—up to 300 dinars per gram—use is concentrated among affluent people in major coastal cities. A wastewater study covering 15 treatment plants in six cities, with samples collected in late 2021, detected traces of cocaine, with local peaks in Tunis and Ariana. Of a sample of 6,201 school pupils, 0.52% said they had used it at least once. The World Health Organization warns of the risks of addiction, overdose and sudden death, as well as cardiovascular and psychological harm.
