Götze explains regret over 2014 World Cup photo
Mario Götze, the midfielder of the German national team and the 2014 World Cup champion, expressed deep regret over taking a commemorative photo with Lionel Messi after the World Cup final, emphasizing that the moment was inappropriate given the tension and joy that were prevailing at the time. Götze said that he genuinely admired Messi and that the photo reflected his great respect for the Argentine star, despite its poorly timed nature right after the match. He added that his experience with the original trophy at the FIFA Museum showed him how special his historic achievement was and his role in Germany's victory. He also confirmed that Messi continues to deliver an amazing performance, and he has nominated four teams as potential winners of the 2026 World Cup.
