Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association and President of the West Asian Football Federation, called for the abolition of secret voting in the elections for the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) presidency. He believes that open voting promotes transparency and accountability in the leadership selection process and grants national clubs and sports leaders the power and independence to make their decisions publicly. This, he argues, helps combat pressures and coercion that may influence votes behind closed doors. This appeal comes amid controversy over the inclusion of private sector investors in FIFA competitions, with the view that transparency in voting will help address the leadership crisis in global football.
