Egypt electricity costs raise inflation

The Egyptian government has decided to increase electricity consumption prices by 12% across all residential slabs, with the exception of the first tier, in an effort to enhance the sustainability of the electricity system and reduce financial losses. This decision comes amid a wave of price hikes affecting fuels and essential goods, raising concerns about its social impact, especially given the rising cost of living for citizens. Members of parliament have expressed their opposition to these increases, calling for a review of costs and losses before implementation. The increase is expected to add to the financial burdens on families, particularly those with limited and middle incomes, and to worsen their hardship amid difficult economic conditions.
