Dart Silva seeks fourth Brazil term amid tensions
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is 80 years old, is preparing to run in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October. He aims to secure a fourth term under the banner of defending Brazil's sovereignty. Lula faces a right-wing opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who attempted to remain in power despite his defeat in 2022. Tensions also loom with the United States, which has imposed tariffs on Brazilian products due to unfair trading practices. Lula's campaign has focused on challenging foreign interference and defending national sovereignty amid a deeply polarized country. Corruption allegations and judicial investigations continue to target him and his opponents, while political competition remains intense over economic and security issues facing the nation.
