Israeli army faces trust crisis
The Israeli military establishment is facing a crisis of confidence, as conflicting statements have emerged between Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir regarding Katz's intention to replace the commander of the Central Command. The situation became muddled when Katz confirmed his intention to appoint Major General Dado Tanuz instead of Major General Avi Blot, following his protest over the handling of settler violence in the West Bank. Meanwhile, the army denied the accuracy of those statements, affirming that any change requires Zamir's approval and that he currently has no plans to dismiss the commander. The crisis has sparked political criticism, notably from former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who accused Katz of attempting to dismantle the army from within amid increasing pressure over the performance of forces in the West Bank.
