Aung San Meets with Red Cross from Prison
Aung San Suu Kyi, the former leader of Myanmar, has appeared after more than five years of secret detention, during which she met with a representative of the International Red Cross in Naypyidaw. This step has sparked some hope regarding improvements in her detention conditions. Photos show her appearing relaxed and celebrating her 81st birthday, but the exact details of her detention—including her location, her health status, and her basic rights—remain unclear. Her son states that the images do not reflect her true condition and warns that this move is not enough, as international concern continues over her rights and her legal and humanitarian circumstances amid ongoing military rule in the country.
