European Airport Disrupted by Drone
Lebanese authorities confirmed that the Leipzig Airport in eastern Germany experienced security disturbances after a remotely piloted drone equipped with an explosive payload was found near the runway, coinciding with a cargo plane colliding with a suspicious object during its attempt to land. A robot was deployed to inspect and disable the drone and remove the explosives, leading to several hours of air traffic suspension and rerouting some flights. Authorities assured that there is no immediate danger to passengers or airport staff. The incident is considered a new and advanced threat, as the German Interior Minister indicated that the use of an armed drone within a critical infrastructure represents an escalation in attack methods. It is believed to be linked to threats of cyberattacks or covert escalation, with possible involvement of parties linked to Russia, according to German and Ukrainian sources, amidst the ongoing security tensions in the region.
