France links Russian network to disinformation on Atal
French authorities have revealed a Russian disinformation campaign targeting French presidential candidate Gabi Atal. A network linked to Russia spread false content across social media platforms in an attempt to tarnish his reputation because of his support for Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022. The campaign showed limited reach and included several posts claiming Atal has Parkinson's disease and supports lenient policies towards property owners. The same network also targeted other French politicians, including two potential presidential candidates, with posts linked to the Russian intelligence agency, aiming to bolster Russian influence in the French electoral landscape.
