The tension between the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia is once again intensifying with a surge in Houthi attacks using missiles and drones, targeting Yemeni government forces’ camps and surrounding areas. These assaults have resulted in the deaths of 45 people and injuries to 29 others. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for these attacks, which targeted Saudi-backed troop concentrations and weapon depots, causing the destruction of camps and military equipment. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is engaged in discussions with the Houthis through Oman and is prepared to respond militarily. International efforts are underway to establish a multinational maritime coalition to secure the shipping lanes through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, amid threats of a blockade imposed by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia. This escalation threatens maritime security and complicates the ongoing Yemeni crisis, which has been tense for years, with the Houthis continuing to threaten oil shipments.
