Indonesia has experienced several cases of food poisoning linked to a government-sponsored free meal distribution program, with more than 1,700 students and teachers falling ill within a week after consuming the provided meals. Most cases occurred in the Java region, notably in the city of Laisim, where 777 people were affected—including 752 students and 25 teachers—showing symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting. It was observed that some pieces of chicken in the meals had a "gummy" texture described as abnormal, raising questions about cooking and storage conditions, especially since the food was cooked at 3 a.m. before distribution. Fifteen patients were hospitalized, most of whom have left after treatment. These incidents come amid widespread concerns over food safety related to government projects, with investigations ongoing into the causes of the poisoning and the food preparation conditions.
