The Wall Street Journal has revealed that U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Hegseth is secretly continuing the extension of American military presence in the Middle East, including 19 warships, air defense units, fighter jet squadrons, and special operations forces. This deployment aims to maintain flexible military options for the Trump administration in confronting Iran, with expectations that it will persist and possibly escalate, potentially extending until 2027. The extension involves increasing pressure on Iran and wears down the Iranian military, while maintaining U.S. forces to counter Iranian escalation, despite some concerns about the strains on military personnel and maintenance needs. The United States remains in a high state of readiness, with the capability to carry out broader strikes or ground attacks if Trump decides to escalate the war against Tehran.
