UN adopts new map for global accuracy
The United Nations announced the adoption of a new map to correct the dimensions of the world, replacing the traditional Mercator map, which dates back to the 16th century, with the more accurate Equal Earth model for representing distances and geographic sizes. The new map aims to provide a more realistic depiction of the Earth by reducing the distortions caused by old maps, thereby enhancing our understanding of directions and geographic distribution worldwide. The UN stated that this map will be used to improve the accuracy of geographic data and information used in international development goals and scientific research.
